SUTTON UTD 5 CHESTER Coombes 5, 46, May 8, Collins 41, Bailey 2 71 Alabi 79, 82
A MEMORABLE home campaign for Sutton United was brought to a fitting conclusion with a dominant victory over Chester at Gander Green Lane, thanks to twogoal Adam Coombes.
Paul Doswell’s side delivered a complete performance over the first 75 minutes, with Adam May, Jamie Collins and Nicky Bailey all scoring from range, while James Alabi bagged two late consolations for the visitors. “Our form at home has been exceptional all the way through, and I think today you saw probably the best football we’ve played,” Doswell said. And Chester boss Jon McCarthy added: “Today’s more about how well Sutton played, an excellent performance. We congratulate them on all they’ve done this season.”
Sutton raced out of the blocks and gained their reward with 25-yard strikes from Coombes on five minutes and May on eight.
Keeper Alex Lynch could have done better for both, and on 41 minutes he was beaten again, standing far to the right of his goal as Collins delicately curled a free-kick inside the opposite post.
After the break, Sutton took less than a minute to add a fourth, as Coombes nodded past Lynch, while Bailey added another stunner on 71 minutes, expertly thundering a volley into the net from 30 yards.
