BATH ARE RUN DOWN DESPITE AN EARLY GOAL

- By Matt Lee

CHELMSFORD 3 BATH CITY 1

CHELMSFORD CITY maintained their hold on third place after coming from behind to beat Bath.

In the battle of two cities, it was Bath who drew blood first. Nick McCootie took advantage of a looping through ball and, after his initial shot was saved by Ross Fitzsimons, the rebound hit him on the shin and went in after 13 minutes.

The Clarets came close to getting an equaliser but Josh Hill watched his header from a corner cleared off the line.

But the hosts equalised moments before the break as defender Michael Spillane produced a striker’s finish to capitalise on a defensive error and score.

Chelmsford went ahead for the first time on 59 minutes as Louie Theophanous’ shot seemed to be heading wide but Axel Andresson could not get out the way and smacked the ball into his own net.

Chelmsford all but sealed the three points with 15 minutes left after Bath had a loud penalty claim.

The Clarets broke and Theophanous rounded Max O’Leary and then shot high into the net to seal the win.

The hosts were reduced to ten men late on as Spillane was dismissed for a late challenge, but the Clarets held on.
