BLYTH SPARTANS 5 GRANTHAM TOWN 1

- By Jeff Bowron

CHAMPIONS Blyth Spartans rounded off a magnificent league campaign with another five-goal romp.

Spartan’' final two games, both on home soil, produced 10 goals and they finish on 101 points and 114 goals.

For Grantham it was a nightmare final week of three defeats after they had lost only once in 29 outings.

Dan Maguire’s hat-trick sunk the Gingerbreads, the first after a bad error in the visitors defence, Jarrett Rivers with the assist. Blyth talisman Robbie Dale made it two with a great finish into the far corner.

Maguire made it three early in the second half from David McTiernan's lopping header, the lively Rivers again providing the cross.

Shaw spurned a good opening when he chipped over Spartans keeper Paul Woolston but wide and Maguire completed his hattrick on the hour.

Gingerbreads defender Stefan Galenski then put through his own goal from another Rivers delivery, before Harry Clifton grabbed a deflected consolation goal.

Spartans will look for more silverware on Wednesday against North Shields in the Northumberland Senior Cup.
