SUTTON SAVED IN STALEMATE

- By John Walsh

SUTTON Coldfield battled hard for a point, which was enough to keep them in the Premier Division.

For Workington it was a scrappy finish to a regulation season, with a long, unbeaten run to earn a play-off place.

The Cumbrians, who have just completed four matches in eight days, must travel to Stourbridge on Monday night for their semi-final.

It was a game of few chances though James Earl, Scott Allison and Jack Ryan were all just off target in the first half for Workington.

Sutton Coldfield went closest when home keeper Aaron Taylor had to move smartly to reach an under-hit back pass and his clearance struck Max Wright but fortunately for him, the rebound flew wide of his goal.

In the second half, Ryan Robbins took advantage of some hesitant defending to go clear, but with only Taylor to beat he fired wide.

James Wren, the Sutton keeper, made the save of the game late on when he flung himself across goal to keep out a fierce shot by Matty Douglas.

Centre-back Sam Smith was outstanding in the Workington defence, which kept a seventh clean sheet in their recent unbeaten run
