CAMBRIDGE CITY 3 ST NEOTS TOWN 0

- By Andy Abbott

CAMBRIDGE CITY’S comprehensive win over local rivals St Neots was not enough to keep the Lilywhites in the Premier Division after results elsewhere did not go their way.

Knowing how crucial three points was, City quickly took the lead on five minutes when Ross Paterson’s quick free-kick found star man Norman Wabo unmarked and he made no mistake from ten yards.

Saints then had the better of the possession, but a Taylor Parr headed effort over and a James Tricks shot just off target was all they created.

The Lilywhites were much the livelier outfit in the second half, with Parr clearing a Benn Robinson effort off the line.

City centre-back Jordan Gent got the important second goal on the hour, volleying in Lee Stevenson’s cross in a manner that a striker would be proud of.

Wabo got the third goal eight minutes later and should have completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot, but his weak spot kick saved by Alex Archer.

By this point, many of the home fans were more interested in checking their mobile phones for other scores, but there was no good news forthcoming and the Lilywhites will now have to adjust to life in Step 4.
