The Non-League Football Paper

Who is the boss of all bosses?

- By Sam Elliott

THE last ball of the regulation season has been kicked in anger, and so probably has its last waterbottle in the dug-outs! It’s time to pick your Fieldturf Manager of the Season.

The SCL National Game Awards are little over two weeks away now and with the leagues all decided, we need you to make some decisions of your own.

One thing we have never had at the NGAs before is a returning winner. Danny Cowley scooped the prize for his efforts at Braintree last season and many fancy he’ll be back at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday May 17 to collect it again.

But this season he is up against some heavyweights. Aldershot fans adore Gary Waddock and his second coming – or The Wadfather Part II as they call it – has ended with a well-deserved play-off place.

Other contenders for the award come in the form of Alan Devonshire, the Maidenhead United manager.

League leaders for so long, they completed the job at Margate yesterday to get their hands on the National League South title. His style of football comes under scrutiny from time to time but the only brand he believes in is winning football and the Magpies have had their biggest moment in many years. Maidenhead may not have been predicted to do great things but it’s fair to say many have been waiting for AFC Fylde to earn promotion for some time. It’s all very well having the money to spend but Dave Challinor has had to use it wisely. Most of his signings have worked at they are worthy National League North champions. Paul Doswell will be in many people’s thoughts after his FA Cup glory run with Sutton United, but what about Blyth Spartans manager Alun Armstrong after they ran away with the Evo-Stik NPL Premier? Our shortlists have been revealed and now it’s over to you!
