IS IT THE END FOR GARRY?

- By NED KEATING

WOKING made sure of their place in the National League next season with a precious point away to promotion hopefuls Dagenham & Redbridge.

Knowing all they needed to stay up was a point, the Cards took the lead through Max Kretzschmar in the 12th minute.

They looked on course for a surprise win until six minutes from time when substitute Scott Heard scored for the hosts.

However, the draw was enough to keep Woking in the league for another season, but boss Garry Hill hinted he may not be in charge for the next campaign.

“I knew it would come down to being at Dagenham on the last day of the season,” said the Cards boss.

“It was always going to be a moving day for me, seeing so many friends and people I’ve met in the past from my successful days with the club.

“I was very grateful and made very welcome here, which has always been the case.

“I’ve been at Woking six-and-ahalf years. We all know if you go around the M25 for six-and-a-half weeks it drives you crazy.

“I’ve done my bit, been loyal to the club in every way and form, but I will talk to the board.

“We have the Surrey Cup final on Wednesday, I’ll deal with that and talk to the board on Thursday.”

For Daggers boss John Still, who replaced Hill at Victoria Road back in 2004, he has the small matter of the play-off semi-finals to worry about now.

The Essex club host Forest Green Rovers on Thursday, before visiting the New Lawn in the second leg on Sunday.

With that in mind, Still made a total of nine changes, with Mark Cousins and Luke Howell the only survivors from the win at Wrexham last weekend.

But the Daggers boss was adamant that there was still more than enough quality in his side.

“When I look at the team against Woking, if they were injury-free, some of those would have been in the team this season, no doubt about it,” he said. “Fejiri Okenabirhie and Matt Robinson were both in the team this season, but that was Luke Pennell’s first game this season – it’s incredible.

“Lingy (Sam Ling) too is another who has been injured, but people needed games and some of them did fantastic.

“It gives me a little food for thought about picking the right teams and the right substitutes.”

“We made three changes in the second half, but we would have made six if we could because there were a couple struggling by the end.”
