SOUTH WEST PENINSULA

TAVISTOCK were crowned Premier Division champions in an exciting season finale.

The Lambs took the title eventually by five points after clinching the silverware on Wednesday, securing the championsh­ip with a game to spare as they beat outgoing champions Bodmin Town 4-1 at a Langsford Park.

Only three years ago Tavistock were relegated to the East Division and had to bounce back. So to take the title in only their second season back is a tremendous achievemen­t.

Tavistock triumphed 3-2 at Plymouth Parkway who finished seventh following Friday’s fare which also saw hosts Bodmin Town, who ended third, beat plucky third-from-bottom Witheridge 2-1 at Priory Park.

Hosts Saltash United finished their season as runners-up by beating Falmouth Town 5-0.

Saturday’s season ending fixtures also saw St Austell finish fourth following their 2-1 win at mid-table Launceston, Mark Goldsworth­y’s penalty and Harry Evans’ effort eclipsing Sammy Davey’s equaliser.

Exmouth Town finished fifth, triumphing 5-1 at basement boys St Blazey while Plymouth Argyle Reserves, who were without a league fixture, ended the season in sixth spot.

Cullompton Rangers won 5-0 at Godolphin Atlantic, while Torpoint Athletic triumphed 2-0 at Tiverton Town Reserves. DAVID GROVES

EAST MIDLANDS

A CARL WESTCARR brace helped fire West Bridgford to a dream title in their debut season in the league.

The striker’s double along with a Ryan Stark wonder goal secured a 3-1 win at Borrowash and promotion to the Midland League Premier Division.

It caps another remarkable chapter for the club which was founded just six seasons ago when it plied its trade in Division Two of the Nottingham­shire Senior League.

South Normanton, who with games in hand had a mathematic­al chance of winning the league, were held 1-1 by Ashby. Birstall are currently second after goals from Mitchell Williams and Adam Boulter earned a 2-0 win over Dunkirk.

Stephen Hart scored a hat-trick in Stapenhill’s 3-2 win at Arnold while Belper also scored three through Mike Dunne, Adam Dring and Marc Atwall at Graham Street Prims.

Aylestone beat Holbrook 7-2, Anstey were 2-0 winners at Kimberley while Barrow won 2-1 at Ellistown.

WOLVES CASUALS clinched second spot behind champions Haughmond – but were given a real fright by much improved AFC Bridgnorth.

Kevin Nickle notched the only goal of the game on the hour mark to register his 37th league strike of the season as both sides spurned chances.

Local rivals Wolves Sporting Community had to settle for third place despite pulling off a 3-0 win over Dudley Sports.

Malvern Town managed to finish fourth following a 5-2 triumph at Ellesmere Rangers, who miss out on a top six spot as a result.

But it proved a red letter day for Malvern marksman Dave Reynolds who rammed home four times to be crowned the league’s leading marksman with an impressive tally of 51.

Bewdley Town bagged sixth spot after destroying Dudley Town 10-0.

Stone Old Alleynians also went goal crazy as they claimed a 9-1 win at second bottom Wellington Amateurs who must now wait to see whether they’ll be relegated along with basement side Gornal Athletic.

Chadd Birch was also amongst the goals, grabbing a second half hat-trick as Willenhall Town produced a 6-1 success at Black Country Rangers.

Pegasus Juniors plundered the only other Premier Division win with a slender 1-0 success at Smethwick.
