EASTLEIGH 1 WREXHAM 1
EASTLEIGH closed the season with a lacklustre dead rubber – but did at least give their fans something to cheer with a timely managerial appointment!
Chairman Stuart Donald announced at half-time that director of football Richard Hill will take over the manager’s hot seat for a second time next season, assisted by former Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler and first-teamers Ben Strevens and Paul Reid forming a coaching team.
On the pitch, both Eastleigh and Wrexham brought the curtain down on a disappointing season for both. The first half was as uninspiring as it gets but Jordan White’s strike less than a minute after the break livened up proceedings. Matt Tubbs grabbed an equaliser midway through the half and from that point it was the home side who seemed more likely to steal a winner.
Strevens said: “It was probably a game where both teams are safe, nothing much to play for, a typical end of season game where there wasn’t a great deal of tempo in it.
“To go back to gaffer [Hill] and Hess coming in to the system, it’s a good set up for the club moving forward.
“We can’t have another season like we’ve just had where we’re worrying about a relegation battle. This club’s gone past that now.”
Wrexham gaffer Dean Keates was disappointed with the home side’s equaliser, branding it ‘embarassing’ that his side were not awarded a free-kick in the build up.
