NUNEATON GO BACK TO BOROUGH
NUNEATON are going back to Boro’ as the latest National League North club revert to the name used before the original dissolved.
Nuneaton Town will be no more from the start of the 2018-19 campaign with Borough brought back after an overwhelming fans’ poll. The move will mark ten years since the club’s reformation following liquidation.
A vote was held last month to discover if supporters wanted to return to the past or keep with the name they have used since they lost their club nearly a decade ago.
It was a landslide and, like Darlington 1883, they will go back to the future and re-energise their original name as the fans’ voices were listened to.
“We confirm that the votes in the recent name change poll have been counted and verified,” Nuneaton announced.
“The result was a resounding ‘yes’ by a clear majority in favour of submitting a formal application to the Football Association to change the name of the club back to Nuneaton Borough Football Club in readiness for the 2018-19 season.
“The application and supporting documents will be submitted in full by the closing date of December 31, 2017 for the FA panel to consider the name change.
“To support the application, this consultation process was a necessary requirement.
“Of the 476 votes cast via email, post and online survey, 464 voted to change the name back to Nuneaton Borough, whilst just 12 votes cast wanted the name to remain as Nuneaton Town.
“The start of the process was the consultation of the fan base with transparency and a desire to change the name of the club. The collection of the submissions needed to be verifiable. The formal process can now be submitted in accordance with FA Rules.
“We would like to thank everyone who took the time to take part. They have spoken and we have listened.”
Nuneaton manager Tommy Wright has enjoyed an encouraging close season with a number of high-profile signings.
The club are hoping to put together a push for promotion next season but have a tricky start to the new campaign with an opening day trip to Harrogate Town followed by the visit of last year’s runners up Kidderminster.
