BRAKES ARE OFF AS ROB FIRES A TREBLE

- By David Lawrence

DAVENTRY T 0 LEAMINGTON 7

LEAMINGTON kicked off their pre-season campaign with an impressive display at United Counties League Premier newcomers Daventry.

Four first half goals summed up a one-sided opening half before the home side came more into the match before two late penalties gave a lopsided look to the scoreline.

Robbie Thompson-Brown led the way with a hat-trick, the first of which came on 12 minutes when he drilled an 18-yard effort into the roof of the net.

Courtney Baker-Richardson had a 33rd minute effort deflected over the line by new signing Liam Canavan but did add his name to the scoresheet in the 40th minute following good work from another summer recruit Colby Bishop, with Thompson-Brown netting his second with the final touch of the half.

Sub Kurtis Revan made it 5-0 to the National League North side three minutes into the second half before Daventry produced their best football of the game only to be denied by replacement keeper Charlie Hornby as he kept out shots from Aaron King and Dean Luton.

King, who was once on the books of Liverpool, sent a curling effort just the wrong side of the post as the home side looked for a deserved consolation.

But it wasn’t to be and the Brakes rounded off their opener with two late goals.

Thompson-Brown netted from the spot after Ahmed Obeng had his shirt pulled and Stefan Moore completed the scoring, tapping in the rebound after his penalty had been saved.
