TOM PETERSON was the toast of Merseyside after his late winner gave City of Liverpool a 2-1 win at North West Counties Premier Division rivals Padiham.

It was the visitors’ firstever FA Cup tie, having been formed in 2015. And it didn’t take them long to stamp their mark when the impressive Jamie McDonald gave them a sixth-minute lead with a neat strike on the turn.

Padiham levelled on 35 minutes, Jay Hart slotting home a penalty but he soon went from hero-to-zero when he saw red for an X-rated challenge on Liverpool’s keeper.

The Purps made their

extra man count in the second period and Peterson’s goal 11 minutes from time took them through to face Prescot Cables. West Didsbury & Chorlton were among the day’s big winners on the road as they romped to a 5-0 win at Athersley Rec with Tom Bailey scoring a goal in each half.

And there were celebrations at Hanley Town where a Dan Cope hat-trick helped the Potteries side to a 4-1 victory over Atherstone Town. Marske United and North Shields shared the spoils after a scintillating eight-goal thriller while an Elliot Williams brace and a late Luke Steward effort edged Harrogate Railway Athletic to a 4-3 win at Thackley. Four goals from Liam Hughes helped Wolves Casuals to a 7-0 victory over Malvern Town while fellow

Midlanders Coleshill Town were 6-2 winners at home to

Wellington, Reece Leek with a brace. Other big wins came at Bottesford Town who saw off Long Eaton United 6-0 while Harborough Town won 5-0 at Northampton Sileby Rangers and Brislington were 6-1 winners at home to Sherborne Town. Four goals from Sam Newsome helped Eastern Counties Brantham Athletic triumph 7-2 at Felixstowe & Walton United, Ascot United won 6-0 at Ringwood Town and Redhill won 8-1 at Hailsham Town.

Malachi Thomas hit a hattrick as Walton & Hersham won 7-0 at home to Mile Oak and Combined Counties rivals Hanworth Villa swept Bedfont & Feltham aside 5-0. But none of these were a match for Berkhamstead’s 12-1 cruise at Stotfold. The South Midlands League side recorded the day’s biggest win, helped by two hat-trick heroes in John Munday and Stacy Field.
