BOREHAM WOOD 4 Turley 34, Andrade 40, Benson 44, Balanta 59 SOLIHULL MOORS 1 Kelleher 32

HARD-TO-PLEASE boss Luke Garrard felt Boreham Wood had lacked their usual spark despite fighting back to overpower Solihull Moors.

In truth, Wood waltzed to a first National League win of the season despite falling behind to Fiarce Kelleher’s smart turn and shot in a packed penalty area.

Two minutes later, Jamie Turley was credited with a pinball-style leveller on the rebound after Paul Benson’s cannon had been repelled by keeper Connal Trueman.

The hosts then ran riot with creative catalyst Bruno Andrade turning and sweeping home before Benson cushioned in a beautiful volley after a recycled free-kick dropped over his shoulder from the head of Solihull’s Tom Tonks. The game was up on 59 minutes when Andrade’s low centre was curled in at the far post by Angelo Balanta but Garrard felt there was plenty of room for improvement.

“To be honest I thought the performance was not as good as it has been,” said Garrard. “In the first 30-35 minutes, the decision making and care was not there and Solihull were more on the front foot.

“We played better against Dagenham and lost but the character and the way we bounced back was pleasing.” Crestfallen counterpart Liam McDonald reckoned Moors showed their opponents “too much respect”. “The lads are taking a lot on board because many of them are new to the level but they need to grasp it quickly because we have been disappointing again. “We have taken our foot off the gas. I don’t know why we’re doing that, we are not a team that can. If we don’t work harder than the opposition, we won’t win.”
