Puritans pummel sad Magpies

BANBURY UNITED put in a five-star performanc­e to see off Dorchester Town.

The Purtians took the lead after eight minutes when former Oxford United striker Jefferson Louis placed the ball to Tom Winters, who fired home inside the box.

Two minutes later, Banbury made it two when Luke Carnell crossed to Conor McDonagh who slotted home.

The visiting Magpies had their first chance on 14 minutes, but Billy Lowes shot wide.

As the Puritans continued to dominate, it wasn’t long before George Nash put them three up after 26 minutes.

Dorchester had their second shot on 39 minutes with Banbury goalkeeper Jack Harding making a great save.

The hosts went down the other end, with McDonagh’s shot being saved by former Yeovil Town, Leicester City and Shrewsbury Town stopper Chris Weale.

Banbury didn’t let up after the break and after 52 minutes Carnell headed the fourth from a Winters corner.

The Magpies tried to hit back three minutes later, but Ross Carmichael fired a freekick straight at Harding.

Louis fired in the Puritans’ fifth on 61 minutes, hammering a shot under Weale’s body.

Four minutes later, Carnell headed against the Dorchester crossbar from another Winters’ corner.

Two minutes after that, the Magpies came close again when Exeter City loanee Kyle Egan hit the bar.

Dorchester pulled one back from the penalty spot when David Jerrad fired home with 15 minutes to go.

Then On 78 minutes, Banbury were unlucky when substitute Leam Howards shot was cleared off the Magpies goalline.

It happened again on 83 minutes, this time Ravi Shamsi was denied by sub Oliver Griggs.
