MET POLICE 3 WORTHING 1

- By James Welham

MET POLICE took just 57 seconds to get their season upand-running and the Surrey-based outfit had their first points of the season in the bag within half-anhour.

Lloyd Macklin gave the Met their lightning start when he toepoked left-back Tom Bird’s cross past Worthing keeper Lucas Covolan.

The lead was doubled after seven minutes with a goal nearly identical to the first.

Will Salmon’s cross from the opposite flank to Bird’s found Ryan James who controlled the ball neatly and finished on the turn into the bottom corner.

As the hosts continued to dominate, the scorer soon became provider with James playing a perfectly timed through ball for Macklin.

And Macklin rounded the helpless Covolan to finish a devastating counterattack and make it 3-0 on 29 minutes.

Worthing created a few more chances after conceding the third goal.

But Met keeper Luke Williams was a bystander for much of the half.

However, he had to pick the ball out of his own net after 58 minutes when Zac Newton’s strike gave the travelling fans a reason to make some noise.

In the final 30 minutes, the Met remained composed and ensured there was no Worthing comeback. STAR MAN: Lloyd Macklin (Metropolitan Police) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
