‘LEAFE ARE PUT ON THE SPOT BY CLINCIAL ERITH

WHYTELEAFE scored more penalty kicks in normal time than they managed in their shoot out as the upsets didn’t relent in midweek.

Southern Counties League side Erith Town progressed on Wednesday night at the expense of the Bostik League South club.

Both teams were awarded – and scored – two penalties each as the game ended 3-3.

So it went to spot kicks to decide the tie and Erith kept their nerve to win 4-1 from 12 yards as Leafe fell on Wednesday.

But the result of the 2017-18 competitio­n to date arguably came 24 hours earlier. North West Counties League

City of Liverpool stunned Prescot Cables 8-2 in a match watched by nearly 1,000 supporters. Purple Power ruled on Merseyside against the Evo-Stik NPL North side, John Connolly’s wonderful hat-trick and one for John McGrath gave them a 4-1 half-time lead.

That was doubled after the break. Karl Noon made it five, before Luke Denson on the hour added number six. McGrath’s second and a good Alex Peterson goal made it a perfect night. City of Liverpool will now face Nantwich Town.

Town were sent packing. Jason Silver grabbed the winning goal in the Lions’ 2-1 success.

Westfields are on the march again – one of the stories of last season are starting on the road to Wembley again.

Lincoln United beat Belper 4-1, Carshalton Athletic saw off Walton & Hersham on penalties and Lewes were too good for Newhaven as the Rooks eventually eased to a 4-1 win.
