CUP SET FOR A SUPER SUNDAY

-

FA CUP second round qualifying action continues today – with FC Romania versus Hayes & Yeading United an intriguing prospect.

Both clubs were formed in the mid-2000s, FC Romania in 2006, and Hayes & Yeading a year later. But that’s where the similarities end.

Although Hayes & Yeading are now in their SKYEx Stadium, FC Romania have never had their own ground and are tenants at Cheshunt’s Theobalds Lane ground.

FC Romania, the Wolves, are a community club for the region’s Romanian community and many Romanians still play for them.

Founder, chairman and manager Ion Vintila said: “We have had good results to get this far. Our three wins have all been away from home so now we have to win at home.

“I saw Hayes & Yeading a week ago and they were fit and powerful. They are a very good team.

“But I know we can beat them if we play our best. It starts 0–0 and, of course, we have a chance.”

Evo-Stik League South East side Hayes & Yeading, who were playing in Step 1 as recently as 2011–12, have suffered three relegations in six seasons, including in both of the last two, and find themselves just one division above their hosts.

Elsewhere today Billericay Town take their band of former Premier League stars to Thamesmead Town with Jamie O’Hara set to make his return after serving a ban.

North Ferriby have a trip to 1874 Northwich,

who progressed through following a 2-0 victory over Mossley in a replay.

There will definitely be a Step 5 side in Monday’s draw with Northern Counties East League Albion Sports hosting North West Counties League side Ashton Athletic.
