BOLDMERE ST MICHAELS 3 WORCESTER CITY 4 (AET)

- By Andy Mitchell

EX-WEST Brom striker Lee Hughes rolled back the years to settle a topsy-turvy tie in favour of Worcester City.

The player-boss, 41, came off the bench to bundle in the extra-time winner in a match that City twice trailed at Midland Premier rivals Boldmere.

Curvin Ellis gave the Mikes a 13th minute lead, redirecting Nicky Dodd’s on-target header.

City gradually worked their way back into the game with Mark Danks rolling in strike partner Dave Reynolds to coolly finish under Lewis Feeney.

Danks then put his side in the driving seat with a delightful lifted effort from just inside the box after Reynolds had twice been denied by blocks seven minutes after the restart.

Danks was thwarted by a full-stretch Harry Craven block before Reynolds steered agonisingly around the far post as City looked to wrap up the tie.

But Boldmere were not done and despite being denied twice with far-post headers, Dodd crashed in from close range two minutes from the end.

Joe Smith’s rebound after hitting both posts with the same effort put the home side back in front 34 seconds into extra-time.

Dodd whacked the bar moments later and City recovered again with Reynolds guiding home in the 99th minute before Hughes plundered a downward header to win it. STAR MAN: Dave Reynolds (Worcester) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
