LIMBRICK’S CARDS TRICK STUNS FYLDE

- By Dan Agnew

WOKING recorded their third straight National League victory after a quickfire comeback which stunned AFC Fylde.

The hosts looked in complete control following Jordan Tunnicliffe’s opener, however two-goals in under a minute from Joe Ward and Jamie Philpot ensured the visitors took all three points back to Surrey.

It was enough to delight Woking’s rookie boss Anthony Limbrick, whose side have risen almost un-noticed into the top six, just one point off leaders Sutton.

Limbrick said: “We are delighted with the result. We wanted to keep it down to one going into the break and we have come out after the interval and turned the game around.”

Fylde started the game brightly and took a deserved lead on 18 minutes. Henry Jones floated a corner to the back post and the unmarked Tunnicliffe chested the ball over the line.

The Coasters could, and should, have doubled their lead on the half-hour but somehow a goalmouth scramble from another Jones delivery failed to yield a finish.

Nathan Baxter then brilliantly tipped Jones’ free-kick wide as AFC Fylde applied the pressure

However, that all changed less than ten minutes after the break when, against the run of play, Woking restored parity. With a corner only half cleared, Ward crashed a volley that took a wicked deflection before nicking in off the post.

And within 60 seconds the comeback was complete. Nathan Ralph whipped in a cross from the left and Philpot took advantage of the space afforded to head home unchallenged. Home keeper Jay Lynch prevented a third when thwarting Woking substitute Inih Effiong in a one-on-one, while Simon Grand headed an effort for Fylde just wide. Coasters boss Dave Challinor wasn’t nearly as impressed as his counterpart, adding: “Frustration has become disappointment and now it’s anger. Two goals in a minute completely switched it from us being in control to having the game taken away from us.”
