SOLIHULL MOORS 2 DAGENHAM Carter 11, Afolayan 40 & REDBRIDGE 2 Bloomfield 6, Howell 90+4

- By Ciaran Thomas

JAKE Howells scored direct from a corner four minutes into stoppage time as Dagenham & Redbridge denied struggling Solihull Moors after the hosts had come from behind.

Mason Bloomfield headed the Daggers into an early lead but Darren Carter and Oladapo Afolayan turned the game around and a resolute defensive display looked to have earned Solihull victory until Howells struck.

“It’s a reoccurring theme, we keep conceding late goals,” Moors manager Liam McDonald said. “For all the possession they had they didn’t really hurt us, I think Dagenham are lucky to get something. “At the minute we are not getting the luck we deserve but I can’t fault the lads, the application and the quality we’ve put in.” Solihull had lost their previous three and it looked another uphill battle as Bloomfield was afforded the freedom of the box to head in Andre Boucaud’s sixth minute free-kick.

But the hosts would hit back within five minutes – Afolayan lifting the ball up for the onrushing Carter to head into the bottom corner via the post.

Moors’ debutant Richard Brodie was denied from close range, while Corey Whitely had volleyed over for the Daggers. Afolayan struck on 40 minutes – Shepherd Murombedzi getting to the byline to pick out the striker who calmly stroked home. Dagenham put the hosts under ever increasing pressure during the second half and eventually, with virtually the final kick, Howells’ corner swung over everyone to fall inside the back post. “Quite rightly we were behind but second half was one way traffic,” reflected Daggers boss John Still. “We’ve played how I know we can play but you can’t do that for half a game.” STAR MAN: Oladapo Afolayan (Solihull Moors) ATT: 625 ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★ REFEREE: Chris Pollard 8/10
