GUISELEY 1 DOVER Rooney 29 ATHLETIC 1 Nortey 40

- By Tom Feaheny

GUISELEY remain unbeaten under new manager Paul Cox after taking a point off high-flying Dover Athletic.

Cox is yet to be beaten in four matches in charge of the Lions and saw his side get off to the perfect start when John Rooney opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark.

But Dover, who started the day second in the table, hit back to earn a share of the spoils 11 minutes later through Nortei Nortey.

Cox said: “I’m pleased with the performance, we had chances in the first-half. We look harder to break down, so I’m taking a lot from this game, we just lack that second goal in this game and the matches before.” Guiseley got off to the brighter start and went closest to brfeaking the deadlock when Rob Atkinson glanced Rooney’s free-kick narrowly wide. And it was another Rooney free-kick which ultimately led to them taking the lead on 29 minutes – this time taking a big deflection off the Dover wall and nestling past a wrong-footed Mitch Walker.

Cox’s side were then dealt a double blow when Raul Correria was stretchered off after landing awkwardly, and straight from the restart, Nortey produced a wonderful finish into the top corner. Dover fashioned the only real chance of the second half when Femi Ilesanmi put a powerful cross but Atkinson brilliantly diverted the ball away from the on-rushing Ryan Bird. Whites boss Chris Kinnear said. “We as group are learning, we are still up there in the table, it is a good point for us, performance wise, we had the better in the secondhalf. “I know a Paul Cox side is always tough to beat so I take it as a positive.” STAR MAN: Rob Atkinson (Guiseley) ATT: 805 ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★ REFEREE: Andrew Miller 7/10
