KOSYLO INSPIRES 10-MAN SHAYMEN

- By Adam Cheshire

MATTY Kosylo produced another mesmeric individual performance as ten-man FC Halifax Town returned to winning ways in spectacular fashion at the expense of Bromley at The Shay.

The dazzling winger scored the opening goal ten minutes after the restart – after Town’s Scott Garner was harshly sent off – before he set up the winner for Tom Denton as the Shaymen moved up to fourth.

Kosylo and Denton both now have five goals each for the season, but the home side had to do it the hard way after defender Garner was adjudged to have caught Brett Williams in the face with a flailing arm just before the interval, resulting in a straight red card from referee Joseph Johnson.

It was a decision which puzzled Town boss Billy Heath, but he was left delighted with how his players responded. “It is very difficult for me because I would love to say a million words but I can’t,” Heath admitted.

“All I will say is that there were a lot of injustices but that was the main one. I’ve not seen the DVD yet but, 100%, we will be putting in an appeal. From where I stood there didn’t seem to be much in it.

“But I’m still sweating after that! To be down to ten men for that long a period and to score two goals and win the game, it was magnificent from the players.”

Dagenham & Redbridge had inflicted Town’s first defeat in seven games last Saturday but they looked to respond early against Bromley with Matty Brown volleying wide and Adam Morgan forcing a fine save out of David Gregory. Gregory then denied an ambitious flicked effort from Morgan before the visiting goalkeeper frustrated Kosylo after he was found by Denton. But although Town found themselves down to ten men, they rallied and were rewarded when Kosylo’s low effort sneaked under Gregory. Sub George Porter equalised seven minutes later after a mistake by Cliff Moyo but Kosylo took centre stage again on 70 minutes, beating Ben Winter with pace and skill, and craftily crossing for Denton to head home. Visiting manager Neil Smith acknowledged the best side won, saying: “It was an onslaught so I was pleased to come in at half-time 0-0. I was disappointed by the way that we started but we were still in the game. “But their boys never gave up and did their manager proud.”
