BURMAN IS BATTERED IN SUPER NIGHTMARE

- By Sheridan Robins

DARTFORD may have been the league leaders at the start of the day, but they were taught a lesson by a Weston-super-Mare side that stretched their unbeaten run to four league matches.

The visitors started strongly, showing exactly why they were top, but it was Weston who had the first real chance of the match and from there it was one-way traffic.

Gethyn Hill’s brace and Archie Collins’ second half strike enough to seal the points for the Seagulls.

Darts manager Tony Burman told The NLP his side were not up to their usual standards, saying: “We were very lethargic for some reason. We shouldn’t be disorganised like we were. I thought second half, we had some half chances.

“I am really disappointed we conceded three sloppy goals. Before we went a goal down, we had some chances. The problem was we had too many players who were well below par.”

It was a moment of brilliance which gave the home side the lead after 18 minutes when Jacob Cane’s scintillating run allowed Danny Greenslade to cross into the box and, fresh from a loan spell at Hereford, Hill headed home on his return to the starting line-up.

And it was to get better for Hill and the Seagulls just three minutes later.

Dayle Grubb broke free and found space in the box but could only hit the post, but all Hill had to do was slot home the rebound and Weston found themselves two goals to the good.

Despite making two changes at the break, Burman’s side conceded almost straight from the kick off. The non-existent Darts defence failed to close Collins down and he scored from a tight angle.

Dartford did enjoy a pro- longed spell of possession in the second half, during which Alfie Pavey’s effort smacked against the bar, but Weston saw it out.

Seagulls manager Marc McGregor said the result had “been coming” over the past few weeks, adding: “We have played better and lost this season. I have told the lads I am pleased with the belief in the side and we now just need to maintain those levels.

“That is four unbeaten now and hopefully we can now go on a little run.

“It was important we got the third goal early on and to be honest I wish we could play the top teams every week. It could have been more but we thoroughly deserved it.” STAR MAN: Jacob Cane (Weston) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
