Stourbridge fluff attacking lines

- By Nick Pullen

STOURBRIDGE let slip their chance to go top when they drew a blank against a stubborn City side who could have easily snatched victory.

City's goal led a charmed life in the first half as Stourbridge applied sustained pressure.

Leon Broadhurst blazed over City's goal on 13 minutes from a corner and then hit the post on 22 minutes, again from a Tom Tonks corner, before the ball was scrambled clear.

From the resulting corner, City goalkeeper Josh Powell blocked a goalbound shot from Stourbridge defender Jack Duggan.

But there was no let up from Stourbridge and two minutes later, Powell was at full stretch again to turn a low Duggan cross around the post.

From yet another corner, unlucky Duggan saw another goalbound attempt dramatically cleared off the line by City's impressive Ryan Winder.

Stourbridge couldn't sustain their efforts and City came more into the game as the half progressed and could have easily snatched the lead on 41 minutes when a glorious effort from Scott Harries was bravely blocked by Stourbridge striker Jordan Archer.

City defended in depth throughout the second half, often having nine men behind the ball and Stourbridge could make little impact against this dogged resistence on offer.

It could have been worse as City came close to grabbing a late winner.

Glassboys goalkeeper Matt Gould have already done well to save at the feet of Craig Carney when through on goal after 81 minutes.

City went even closer in stoppage time when a Harries shot beat Gould but somehow struck striker Oliver Wood and cannoned back off him into Gould's grateful arms.
