LLANDUDNO RUN ENDED AS CHAMPS FLEX MUSCLE

- By Chris Smart

REIGNING champions The New

Saints ended Llandudno’s unbeaten start in the Welsh Premier League after beating them 1-0 at Park Hall to go top.

Chris Seargeant netted the decisive goal on nine minutes after being set up by Wes Fletcher, with the result marking a fifth clean sheet on the bounce for Scott Ruscoe’s side.

The scoreline might have been more emphatic had it not been for heroics from Seasiders keeper Dave Roberts, who pulled off superb stops from Jon Routledge, Fletcher and Adrian Cieslewicz. Meanwhile Connah’s Quay

Nomads and Bangor City moved to within one point of the leading pair after victories over

Cardiff Met and Aberystwyth Town respectively. A 37th-minute strike by James Owen gave Connah’s Quay the win over the Students, who would have gone top with a victory.

Meanwhile, a dramatic 93rdminute stunner from Steven Hewitt snatched a 3-2 victory for Bangor over Aberystwyth and their former boss Nev Powell.

The winning goal was a grandstand finale to a match that had been 1-1 after 88 minutes.

Aberystwyth, still looking for their first win of the season, took the lead through Luke Borelli on 62 minutes before Gary Taylor-Fletcher came off the bench and equalised with his second touch.

There was late drama as the Citizens went ahead through Brayden Shaw, only for Craig Hobson to grab a 90th-minute equaliser for Aber.

But, almost inexplicably, Bangor grabbed the winner three minutes into injury time.

Prestatyn and Newtown fought out a goalless draw at Bastion Gardens while Bala Town’s miserable start continued as they were taken apart by Cefn Druids 3-0, their fourth defeat.

Ilan Ap Gareth, Ashley Ruane – from the spot – and Nathan Peate got the home goals.

A brace from Kayne McLaggon on his 27th birthday inspired

Barry Town United to a 3-1 win over Carmarthen Town. In Welsh League Division One, Llanelli Town crashed to their first defeat of the campaign – a 3-1 loss at Haverfordwest County.

Greg Walters fired County into an early lead and they doubled their advantage in the second half through Joe Leahy. Liam Samuel brought the Reds back but former Llanelli player Nicky Palmer secured all three points. Goytre United leapfrogged them on goal difference following their 3-0 win over Cwmamman

United. Tom Walters earned the plaudits with a hat-trick. In the Cymru Alliance, leaders

Airbus UK Broughton slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Porthmadog – a result that ended their five-match winning run.

Joe Chaplin netted twice for Porthmadog either side of a Mark Jones leveller for the Wingmakers. Airbus are two points clear of Caernarfon Town, who were not in league action.
