Chadwick inspires Ashton rout

- By Phil Matthews

ANYONE wondering what the attraction of Non-League football league is could have got their answer at the Don Amott Arena in a match which swung one way and another.

It was a hugely entertaining game that had seven goals in it and was all-action from the first minute to the last.

Ashton were well worth the three points, scoring five goals on their travels as they produced a super showing in front of goal to decide the game.

In a fairly flat first half Ashton scored a 27th minute goal through Jack Dyche that gave them a deserved half time lead.

As testament to that Lewis King in the home goal was arguably the hosts best player of the half.

Ashton appeared to have put the game out of Sports’ reach with a second goal seven minutes after the restart as Nic Evangelinos expertly chipped the keeper to give his team a two goal lead.

Mickeleover forced their way back into the game with two goals in three minutes as first Andy Dales blasted home from the edge of the area as he latched on to a half cleared corner.

Evan Garnett weaved his way into the box before finding the back of the net on 77 minutes.

With just 13 minutes of the game to go few would have predicted the final scoreline as it looked like the hosts were digging deep and were going to find a way of taking something from the game.

The goals galvanised Ashton who reasserted their superiority with an 83rd minute penalty despatched by Matthew Chadwick.

They then scored via close range finish from Liam Tomsett before Chadwick rounded the keeper to score the fifth and final goal deep in stoppage time to seal all three points.
