LADS WERE WRIGHT TO SACRIFICE WAGES

-

TOMMY Wright says the agreement of his Nuneaton players to sacrifice a week’s wages after their disappointing FA Cup exit last Saturday shows how much they care about the club.

Wright’s side were totally outplayed by Evo-Stik Premier side Nantwich Town in the third qualifying round match before going down to a 3-1 defeat at the Weaver Stadium.

And it only helped stir up a hornet’s nest at Liberty Way with the club struggling in 17th place in National League North ahead of yesterday’s trip to Blyth Spartans.

But boss Wright insists the decision to give up their week’s wages in acceptance of a poor display, shows where their hearts lie.

“This is not just about Saturday, this is about the season as a whole,” the Boro boss said.

“Yes, Saturday leaves a financial gap for this football club, us giving up a week’s wage helps fill that.

“But it is more than that. It is about us showing that this hurts. Talk is cheap in football and we wanted to do something as a group to show that we mean it. We are sorry for how we have started and this seemed the best way.

“I mean this is going to hurt. We are not on big money, this is people’s bills we are talking about. But we wanted to act and in a way that shows that we are not happy and I think we have done that.”

Wright, meanwhile, has moved to shore things up at the back by re-signing powerful defender Exodus Geohaghon.

“He feels that he has unfinished business here,” Wright said of the player returning for a third spell.

“His experience and no-nonsense style will be a welcome addition to the group.”
