BARWELL 1 SHAW LANE 0

- By Luke Pawley

BARWELL shocked league leaders Shaw Lane with a 1-0 victory on Non-League Day.

The game got off to a slow start, with Barwell's Tom Bates having the first chance on 15 minutes.

Midway through the first half, Jake Heath's freekick crashed against the crossbar to keep the scores level.

Michael Townsend and Owen Story also had great chances but the sides went in level at the break.

Shaw Lane were nowhere near their leagueleading form throughout the game, and will be disappointed with their efforts in Leicestershire.

They succumbed to Barwell's persistent pressure on 58 minutes when Story wriggled into the box and the ball fell loose for Matt Stenson to smash home.

The former Leicester Road striker was a great threat throughout the whole game and took his goal well.

He had a chance to double his tally on 73 minutes but, after a fantastic run inside, his shot curled onto the crossbar.

Shaw Lane then appeared to have got an equaliser when the ball found its way into the net but it was ruled out for offside.

And the entertainment continued until the final whistle with Story breaking into the box one-on-one but he could only direct his effort straight at the goalkeeper who saved.
