CHESHAM UNITED 1 ROYSTON TOWN 2

- By Simon Newbury

ROYSTON secured their third away win of the season to move above Chesham in the table.

Most of the action in a dull affair came in the second half. Chesham had the best moment of the opening half when Jhai Dhillon’s shot bounced away off the legs of visiting keeper Joe Welch, while Royston’s only effort of note came when Adam Murray went forward to meet Lee Chappell’s freekick but headed wide.

Seven minutes after the restart Royston took the lead when Chesham’s defence failed to clear Josh Castiglione’s corner and John Frendo forced the ball over the line.

Four minutes later Chesham were awarded a penalty when Dhillon was bundled over by Castiglione on the edge of the area, but Welch

guessed correctly to save Lewis Toomey’s kick.

Royston then added a second when a long freekick was headed across goal by Lee Chappell for Adam Marriott whose header looped over keeper Hafed Al-Droubi.

However Royston were reduced to ten men seven minutes later when Scott Thomas picked up a second yellow card.

Chesham immediately took advantage when Joe Iaciofano’s low drive beat Welch. However they failed to mount a late assault and the visitors were able to see out time, although Welch picked up a yellow card.
