DAVIES CAN BE STERLING SUCCESS
IT’S refreshing to see a former Premier League star beginning a new journey in management in Non-League.
While Ryan Giggs was throwing his name in to the ring for both the Everton and Leicester jobs last week, Kevin Davies was recovering from the battering of Storm Brian in an eventful first game in the Southport dugout.
Many choose to begin life as a coach in the plush environment of an academy, or join the backroom staff of a mate somewhere. Davies, however, wants the pressure that comes with leadership and fighting for three points.
His choice would not be for everyone; it is a different world from what he is used to. Some will site that, and his lack of experience as reasons why the appointment is a risk. But Southport gets Davies’ contacts, his presence and his drive to be a success in his first role.
He’s one of the game’s good guys, so I won’t be alone in hoping that he is.
