ROBINS ROCK PAST THE BLUES

- By Robbie Coppack

ASHTON UNITED eased past Frickley Athletic to book their place in the next round of the FA Trophy courtesy of goals from Matthew Chadwick, Liam Tomsett, Alex Johnson and Jack Dyche.

Gavin Allott equalised for the Blues midway through the second half, but Ashton then went up through the gears to prevent the game going to a replay.

The Robins were well worth the comprehensive victory and should have been out of sight before Frickley levelled on 68 minutes.

Dyche and substitute Alex Johnson both missed guiltedged chances during the second half to put the game beyond doubt before Tomsett put the Robins back in front on 76 minutes.

Johnson made it 3-1 with ten minutes to go when he found the net at the second time of asking from six yards.

And Dyche added a fourth for Ashton five minutes from time when Alex Johnson was released down the right and his cross was met by Dyche, who headed past the goalkeeper.

Ashton manager Jody Banim will be delighted with his side’s performance as Frickley rarely threatened to add to their solitary goal.
