Dales makes it misery for Slinn

- By Keith Trudgeon

IT WAS a tale of two keepers at Barrowfold, as Mickleover recorded a comprehensive victory as they hammered a below-par and disappointing Stalybridge Celtic.

Sports keeper Lewis King made a string of superb saves and was thankful to his woodwork four times as Celtic somehow drew a blank.

While at the other end Joe Slinn had an afternoon he will be more than happy to forget.

He needlessly upended Andy Dales to concede a fifthminute penalty which playermanager John McGrath duly despatched for the opener.

And he was left in no man’s land when Jake Scott fired a shot against the post which Dales swept in on the rebound, much to his frustration.

The third goal came seven minutes into the second half when Dales again popped up on the left.

He beat Luke Ashworth all ends up and crossed for Jake Scott to turn home past the stranded Slinn.

Despite dominating possession, Celtic found themselves four behind on 68 minutes thanks to another defensive lapse when Lee Neville was dispossessed by Evan Garnett who crossed for Dales to drill home his second goal of the afternoon from 15 yards.

Celtic’s woes were compounded four minutes from time when Slinn got into a total mess with skipper Danny Morton 25-yards from goal and Garnett walked the ball into the empty net for Mickleover’s fifth. It was no more than they deserved.
