LATE STEAL AS TERRAS CUT DOWN THE KINGS

- By Dill Butcher

MARK MOLESLEY was a relieved man as his under-par young side scored twice late on to record a dramatic victory over a resilient Kings outfit.

The Terras' boss acknowledged that their opponents had made a real game of it.

He told The NLP: "We made hard work of it but they were resolute and strong today as they frustrated us.

“Eventually though we worked some spaces and got our goals. And we showed spirit and character despite frustrations from all corners of the ground.

“We are a young, new side and we are not the finished article but we want to prove people wrong and get back on a winning run again."

A turgid first half passed virtually incident-free, although the visitors enjoyed the best of the meagre fare on offer.

The hosts failed to register a shot on target in the first half.

While Kings provided a few bright moments, most notably in the first minute when Mitchell Weiss nearly caught out keeper Mark Travers with an audacious long-ranger that just flew over.

The Terras were carved open midway through the half when Brendan Ocran’s pull-back set up Jorell Johnson, but he fired wide.

Weymouth's best moment in the first period came on 26 minutes when Charlie Davis fired over from the edge of the box before Weiss fired straight at Travers at the other end just before the break.

Just before the hour mark, Kings had a double chance to break the deadlock.

Kieran Turner’s shot was pawed away by Travers before Ocran's follow up was brilliantly cleared off the line by Callum Buckley.

And Weymouth made them pay with their dramatic finish. With two minutes of normal time left, Ben Thomson’s drilled, low centre was diverted into his own net by the luckless Sam Tring.

And in the first minute of stoppage-time, on-loan Bournemouth youngster Charlie Seaman capped a fine debut by slamming home a left-footer after his initial drive was parried by Kings keeper Martin Bennett.

Disbelieving Kings' assistant boss Andy Stratford said:

“I’m amazed we have nothing to show for our efforts, despite controlling large periods of the game.

“This seems to be the story of our season. We can dominate spells but are not clinical in front of goal during those periods.

“But we are really proud of them regardless."
