- By Dave Jones

CURZON ASHTON 2 SOUTHPORT 2

NIALL Cummins’ firsthalf stoppage-time equaliser secured Curzon Ashton a draw.

The Nash got an immediate foothold from a hopeful ball from James Baillie into Southport’s box. Striker Ben Wharton stuck his foot out, bringing the ball down then cleverly turning his marker before slotting past keeper Mark Halstead.

The lead lasted all of nine minutes when the returning Jamie Stott gave a silly ball away to Southport’s Jordan Hallam, making his way into the box before Chris Rowney rashly took him out.

Captain Steven Schumacher took the penalty and hit it straight down the middle to draw Southport level.

With only 24 minutes on the clock, Southport took the lead as Jordan Hallam nicked the ball to slot past the outrushing Cameron Mason, with more chances falling for them soon after, all unconverted.

But Curzon got the fourth and final goal of the half, and the match, as Cummins, denied at the far post, wasn’t going to see tricks repeated and he headed home in aded time.

Curzon were the team to threaten in the second half without scoring.

Cummins again failed to hit the target with just three minutes remaining, while Bradley Jackson’s shot was saved at the other end. STAR MAN: B Wharton (Curzon) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
