ROVERS ARE OUT TO FINISH THE JOB

-

CONNOR Jennings reckons Tranmere Rovers should have beaten Peterborough in the FA Cup first round, but is confident they can complete the job on Wednesday. Micky Mellon’s side host League One Posh at Prenton Park in a first round replay this week after the initial tie ended 1-1 at London Road. Rovers put in a terrific performance to force a replay, now Jennings is now calling on his team-mates to go one better with a trip to either Woking or Bury awaiting the winners. “It does feel like a bit of a missed opportunity but we feel we can get the win at Prenton Park,” the midfielder said. “There was some disappointment in the dressing room as we thought they were there for the taking, but it is what it is. “We’ve got a replay, and going back to Prenton Park we should be feeling positive.” You have to go back to 2004 for the last time Tranmere knocked a higher league team out of the FA Cup when Brian Little’s side beat Bolton 2-1 in a third round replay as a League One side. Rovers, of course, now ply their trade two divisions lower but Jennings reckons their style of play is actually better suited to playing Football League sides. “It’s slower than the National League,” he added. “In the National League, it’s 100mph with two touches at most. If you can create the space, you do get a bit more time on it. “It was a good test for us, so hopefully we can take that performance into the replay. But we have only done half a job. We can’t look at the second round too much. It’s exciting to still be in it. “We had great support at London Road. They were singing for the full 90 minutes which was brilliant. Hopefully now we can get a nice little turnout as well at home and see what happens. And he added: “It doesn’t matter what cup you’re in. You’re there to win games. It’s our job to do that and to build momentum, so it’s important we do that.”
