GRUBB’S UP! ACE DAYLE IN BIG MOVE

- By Jon Couch

HE’S SITTING pretty as one of the most prolific goalscorers in senior football – now Dayle Grubb is set to fulfil his Football League dream.

The 26-year-old front man has netted 29 goals since the turn of 2017 – a record in open play bettered only by Tottenham’s Harry Kane and equalled by Forest Green Rovers’ Christian Doidge.

Now, Grubb is set to join Doidge at League 2 Rovers after signing an 18-month contract which will come into effect on January 1.

Grubb, currently a primary school sports teacher, has played parttime football his whole career but after being the target of much interest since the summer, feels the time is right to try his luck in the professional game.

“I’m delighted to have signed [for Forest Green],” the Seagulls said. “I’ve really enjoyed where I have been playing, but I feel like I need to take that next step higher up the pyramid. I have heard a lot of good things about Forest Green and it’s somewhere I can see myself playing football.

“League football will obviously be a lot different, a lot quicker, a lot tougher, but I believe I can do it. I won’t know until I take that step but I am confident I can do well.”

The Women’s Super League 1 clash between Yeovil Town Ladies and Reading this afternoon has been switched to Weston-Super-Mare’s Woodspring Stadium.

The game, which is to be shown live on the BBC Sport website, kicks off at 12.30pm.
