The Non-League Football Paper

SHOTS CHIEF HAILS HIS SUPER FAN

- By Jon Couch

A DEVOUT supporter has been rewarded for his loyalty with the red carpet treatment – and it’s all thanks to the Non-League Paper!

Bewildered John Orlowski wrote to The

NLP last week to tell us of his recent tale of woe after travelling 830 miles from his Cheshire home to see his beloved Aldershot Town play back-to-back National League matches – but didn’t actually see a single ball kicked!

So, after reading of his plight in last Sunday’s issue, Aldershot Town chairman Shahid Azeem tracked the superfan down and invited him as his guest of honour in the director’s box for a game of his choice in the new year.

Mr Orlowski’s nightmare week began on Tuesday November 21 when a 556-mile round train journey from Timperley to Bromley was made in vain after the game at Hayes Lane was postponed just seven minutes before kick-off due to a floodlight failure.

Then, four days later, it was a similar story as Mr Orlowski encountered severe connection problems from London Waterloo down to Aldershot for their home game with Wrexham, prompting him to make a detour and drop in on a local game at nearby Clapham instead.

“I was only too happy to help when I read John’s story,” said chairman Azeem, who has arranged to meet the club’s number one fan before this week’s game at Guiseley.

“John and I have met previously, but I had no idea he travelled so far to watch us every game. That’s very impressive and great support!

“It sounds like he had a very frustrating week with the unfortunate situation at Bromley and then problems with the trains for the Wrexham game, having the divert, so I’ll be delighted to invite him in as my guest for a game in the near future.”
