IT’S SEVENTH HEAVEN AS ABER ROUT PRESTATYN

- By Chris Smart

ABERYSTWYTH Town were in seventh heaven as they thrashed Prestatyn Town 7-1. An unstoppable long-range strike from Ashley Young gave Aber the lead before John McKenna headed in a second.

And a quick-fire double from Malcolm Melvin and Joe Phillips handed Aber the three points before the break.

Noah Edwards struck a consolation for the Seasiders in the second half but further strikes from Ryan Wade, Declan Walker and Craig Hobson sealed the rout. Bangor City moved one point behind leaders The New Saints after a 2-0 win at Cefn Druids.

Goals from Dean Rittenberg and Luke Wall gave the Citizens all three points as they closed the gap on TNS, who didn’t play as the ice and snow saw their top-ofthe table clash with Connah’s

Quay Nomads postponed. Elsewhere, a late effort from Chris Venables helped Bala

Town beat Cardiff Met 2-1. Mike Hayes put Bala ahead but Eliot Evans equalised within three minutes. However, a late curling effort from Venables saw Bala snatch the victory. In other action, Barry Town

United survived a late scare to edge past Carmarthen Town 2-1.

Macauley Southam and Kayne McLaggon were both on target for Barry before Liam Griffiths pulled one back.

Meanwhile, a late Joe Kenton strike helped Newtown to a 2-1 win over Llandudno. Shaun Cavanagh had earlier cancelled out Luke Boundford’s opener.

Llanelli Town returned to the top of Welsh League Division One when a Lee Trundle brace helped them sweep to a 4-1 victory over Briton Ferry Llansawel.

Ace striker Trundle struck just before half-time and again in the second period to add to goals by Joe Clarke and Lee Bevan. Stephen Davey fired home a late penalty for the visitors.

Llanelli took advantage of the enforced inactivity of

Haverfordwest to go back to the summit, with the Bridge Meadow club’s scheduled match at Cwmbran Celtic called off.

Gwent side Goytre also had their match with Taffs Well postponed. Penybont suffered a setback to their title aspirations when they slipped to a 3-2 reverse at Undy Athletic while Monmouth Town added to the woes of basement boys Ton Pentre with

a 3-0 success. Mark Jones scored all the goals as Afan Lido

overwhelmed Caerau Ely 3-0. Caernarfon Town went three points clear at the top of the Huws Gray Alliance after a comprehensive 5-0 victory over

Penrhyncoch at the Oval. Clive Williams put the Canaries ahead in the seventh minute and that was the way it stayed until the 67th minute when Nathan Craig netted from the penalty spot to double their advantage.

Jamie Breese put the result beyond doubt with a third and further goals from Gareth Evans and Ryan Williams gave the final scoreline a more flattering look.

The win takes Caernarfon clear of Denbigh Town at the top.
