Robertson rocket saves red faces
MET POLICE 1 ENFIELD TOWN 1
A BRILLIANT double save from Town’s Joe Wright threatened to preserve their slender advantage and condemn the Police to a second successive home defeat in four days.
But the goalkeeper’s great effort to deny the Mets from the penalty spot was ultimately not decisive because the Police claimed a point with a screamer of a shot from 20 yards by Luke Robertson after 79 minutes.
Eight minutes earlier, Wright had faced Tom Bird from 12 yards after a handling offence. He saved the penalty and also denied the Police from the rebound.
Ironically, Town had taken the lead from a penalty shortly before the break. This time, Darren Purse showed how it should be done by despatching his shot.
It followed a scrappy opening half, with no-one able to take control as the challenges flew in.
The Mets came out for the second half on the front foot, largely due to the introduction of substitute Bayley Mummery.
He was denied a penalty on 50 minutes in a decision challenged vehemently by the Police bench.
Ten minutes later, however, they were successful with their penalty appeal after a move which began with a backheel from Mummery, but Wright was equal to it.
After Robertson’s equaliser, both teams had chances late on but no-one could find the winner.
