EVO-STIK NORTH & SOUTH ROUND-UP

- By Tom Harle

BEDWORTH

staged two comebacks in a 3-2 win over Peterborough

Sports, securing an Evo-Stik South play-off place into the New Year.

Luke Keen and substitute Barry Fitzharris kept the Greenbacks in the contest after going behind.

Moments after Fitzharris’ 71st-minute leveller, Levi Rowley made it 3-2 when he headed home Luke Rowe’s left wing cross to extend their unbeaten run to five games. FA Vase holders Cleethorpes

Town were bumped out of the top six but beat Kidsgrove 1-0.

Brody Robertson converted a one-on-one early in the second half to settle a tight affair.

Meanwhile, Gresley’s frustrating month of three postponements ended in a 4-0 defeat to fourth-placed neighbours Chasetown.

George Cater took advantage of some sloppy defending to bag a hat-trick, Matt Gardner heading in the third from close range.

Stamford left it late to rubberstamp an unbeaten home record in 2017, snatching a late 1-1 draw with Stocksbridge Park Steels.

After a first-half of few chances, the hosts went behind through Richard Stirrup just after the hour mark.

But an 89th-minute leveller from Henry Eze ensured they stayed fourth.

Jordan Johnson’s second-half strike was enough for Leek Town to push past Loughborough Dynamo – their third straight win.

In a hectic spell, Johnson converted a sweeping move down the right when the ball fell to him and five minutes later, Ben Chapman got down to his left to save a penalty for handball.

Elsewhere, Romulus and Carlton Town took a point apiece in a 2-2 draw. Matthew Sargeant saving a late spot-kick to edge the 22nd-placed hosts further out of trouble. Spalding United beat Newcastle Town 2-0, drawing them level on points in mid-table. In Evo-Stik North, Scarborough Athletic were clinical against Clitheroe in a 4-1 win that took them up to third. Ossett Albion left their best until last, beating Atherton Collieries 3-1 with two late goals. Tommy Wood, deputising up front, handed Albion the lead when he converted Aidan Chippendale’s low cross.

Atherton began to apply pressure and equalised when Gareth Peet’s strike went in off the post.

Scott Metcalfe rifled in on 81 minutes and Wood struck late on to lengthen Albion’s unbeaten run to four.

Mossley beat Trafford 1-0 in a north-west derby that took time to come to the boil, Aaron Burns with the winner from the spot.

There was a dramatic denouement at Droylsden, a debatable Liam Ventry penalty four minutes from time seeing them past Ossett Town.
