TALBOT OFF LATE AS THE QUAKERS LET POINTS SLIP

- By Joshua Smith

ALFRETON rescued a late point from the penalty spot when a dull game burst into life and Darlington keeper James Talbot saw red.

The visiting Quakers were ahead early through striker Reece Styche.

But they had a vital win snatched away from them when Brendon Daniels fired in from 12 yards.

It took just eight mintues for Darlo to open the scoring. Reds’ James Baxendale slipped to give Styche the opening, his shot laced across goal into the far top corner, leaving Chris Elliott helpless between the sticks.

In truth that was the only moment of real quality in the game. Alfreton had the better of the chances but nothing clear cut. Ryan Jennings came close to an equaliser when his touch at the back post from a low Daniels cross was tipped into the air, but he couldn’t get a boot to the ball.

A lifeline was thrown to the Reds in the 88th minute.

Visiting keeper Talbot was involved in an off-theball incident with Tom Allan inside the box in an off the ball incident and the referee brandished the red card.

With no keeper on the bench, Gary Brown took the gloves but he couldn’t keep out Daniels’ penalty.

There was still time for some more late drama, Pierce Bird was late with a tackle and was shown a second yellow card with the last action of the afternoon. STAR MAN: Luke Shiels (Alfreton) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
