KETTERING TOWN 1 KINGS LANGLEY 1

- By Peter Short

RENE HOWE’S injurytime own goal gave Kings Langley a deserved share of the spoils against title chasing Kettering.

The hosts started the brightest and as their position in the league suggests looked very comfortable.

It took just eight minutes to open the scoring as top scorer Aaron O’Connor latched on to a Lindon Meikle cross and fired in.

O’Connor was denied a second on 22 minutes, as Martin Bennett pulled off an acrobatic save.

From then on Kings Langley grew into the game, forcing Ben Toseland to turn a Jorell Johnson looping header off the line on 41 minutes.

Paul White needed to make a smart save two minutes later as the visitors finished the stronger.

The Kings continued to apply pressure after the break but it was the hosts with the better chances.

Matthew Stephens couldn’t find the lightest of touches needed to turn home another Meikle cross while Howe crashed his shot against the upright on 74 minutes only for the ball to bounce into Bennett’s gleeful hands

And new signing Orrin Pendley thought he had scored on debut with eight minutes remaining, chesting the ball and volleying from 18 yards but he was adjudged offside.

Kettering looked to have hung on before a final minute corner taken by Elliott Godfrey was nodded into his own net by Howe. STAR MAN: Liam Bateman (Kettering) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
