GATESHEAD 3 BOREHAM WOOD 3

- By Jeff Bowron

GATESHEAD came from two down to score three late goals - only to throw victory away at the death and now must do it all over again.

Boreham Wood’s leading scorer Bruno Andrade earned and dispatched a 95th minute penalty to earn a replay on Tuesday and leave Gateshead thinking what might have been.

Jordan Burrow had come off the bench to score his first Heed hat-trick, the first from the penalty spot but Andrade had the final say.

The final 20 minutes was thrilling all-action cup football, the previous 70 anything but, both sides struggling to create openings.

Only one effort at goal was conjured up in the opening half hour, the first half as drab and uninspiring as the weather.

Bournemouth loanee Joe Quigley had a good chance for the Wood after the break, two goals then coming inside five minutes.

Kieran Murtagh, set up by Quigley, got the first from eight yards, Kane Smith then scoring from outside the box off the far post.

A Noah Chesmain tug on Wes York saw Burrow fire home a 77th minute penalty, the striker then heading home Jordan Preston’s pinpoint cross.

It was deja-vu for the Wood when Burrow’s header from Scott Barrow’s cross beat Grant Smith, only for Andrade to level after he was fouled by Neill Byrne to level things up.
