The Non-League Football Paper

Bear with us... there is method to the madness

FOLLOWING the announcement of major changes to Step 4 reporting I was very disappointed at the new format. You appear to be concentrating on anything above Step 4, which is disappointing. Also as a supporter of Carlton Town winning away at Market Drayton only one goal scorer was mentioned. Please go back to the old system as it worked.

JONATHAN HARTSTONE AT the risk of being labelled biased (as a Taunton Town supporter), I’m afraid I’m not impressed with the new match reporting layout in The NLP.

The Step 4 games now seem to have been relegated to “not very important”, and a “league round-up” is being deemed sufficient, in place of the individual match reports.

It wasn’t long ago that Step 5 games were reported in this way, and they have recently been relegated even further to a brief round-up per league.

It seems to me that everything that Non-League fans criticise about League football, i.e. the way that all the money, publicity, news, etc gravitates towards the top end of the game, is gradually creeping into our part of the game as well.

I have purchased The NLP since its first edition, and generally I feel it has progressed well since then, but this, to me, is a retrograde step. I assume this to be a money-saving exercise as it now only requires one reporter per league, instead of one per game. BOB WOOD, via email I WISH to protest about the lack of reports, for example, of Bostik South matches and Evo-Stik matches, which I like to read.

Is the format in last week’s paper going to be the format for the future editions?

It is a disgrace for supporters of Non-League football. If so I shall be cancelling my copy with my local newsagent, as I can get all the other information that I require online at no cost. Charlie Wheatley, Walton Casuals supporter
