SUTTON COLDFIELD T 4 WORKINGTON 1

- By Ken Hawkings

SUTTON entertained high flying Workington who had made the long journey from Cumbria.

The hosts had enjoyed a two-week lay off and the appointment of their talisman Neil Tooth.

A long pass to the far post was headed over by debutant Matt Timms.

A long distance shot forced the Royals keeper into a diving save and the resultant corner was headed home by an unmarked Joshua Calvert.

A good piece of interpassing play and a neat piece of work by Checklaine Steele ended with Lee Smith shooting just wide.

A free-kick out on the right in the 64th minute was floated into the Workington box and Justin Richards rose above the defence to head home.

A corner in the 72nd minute was met by an onrushing Richards and put Sutton into an unfamiliar position of leading.

Workington hit back and a lobbed ball looked to be creeping in until James Beresford cleared.

A long range hopeful shot squirmed under the body of Aaran Taylor in the Workington goal to increase Sutton’s lead.

The hosts were now on fire and in the 84 minute Steele took the ball along the goal line and Niall Flint had a simple chance to tap home.

This was a very much improved performance and was satisfying as Sutton came from behind. STAR MAN: Justin Richards (Sutton C) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
