DANNY DOUBLES UP FOR THE SEASIDERS

- By Steve Lucas

FA VASE favourites Marske United are through to the last eight after a comfortable win over Bradford Town.

Both sides are going well in their respective divisions, but it was the Northern League Division One club that triumphed over their Western League Premier Division opponents at the GER Stadium.

Danny Earl scored a goal in each half to see off the challenge of the Bobcasts, who struggled to create openings.

Marske assistant manager Nick Ward told The Non-League Paper: “We were nervy at the start, maybe that was down to the occasion.

“The first goal settled us down and we were pretty comfortable after that.

“We can beat anyone in the Vase if we play like we can.”

The visitors from Bradford-on-Avon defended well and looked to hit the Seasiders on the break, but managed only one shot on target.

The first real chance of the game brought the opener just before the half hour mark.

Josh Rowbotham’s ball in from the right found Chay Liddle and his shot was turned into the net by Earl.

Earl was then unable to get on the end of Curtis Round’s dangerous ball across goal as Marske searched for a second goal.

The Seasiders were looking to pass their way through a Bobcats side whose style was more direct.

Town started the second half disastrously when they shipped another goal during the opening minute of the second period.

Craig Gott’s delivery saw Earl hook the ball over his shoulder at the near post to beat the Bobcats goalkeeper and player-manager Danny Greaves.

The visitors’ first effort at goal came just before the hour when substitute Matt Morris drove at goal only to scuff his shot wide.

Mikey Roberts put a back post free header wide for Marske after Gott’s shot from distance had been tipped onto the outside of the post and bounced back.

Earl missed a couple of chances to complete his hat-trick, but the Seasiders reached the sixth round of the competition without too much concern.
