Gingerbreads salvage late draw

GRANTHAM TOWN 1 WITTON ALBION 1

- By Pat Nixon

GRANTHAM salvaged a point in a draw against Witton Albion with a dramatic equalising goal deep into added time at the end of the game.

Witton had the first chance of the match in the second minute but Grantham keeper Kieran Preston saved from Steven Tames with his legs and then repeated the trick from Will Jones, as Witton had the better of the opening 20 minutes.

Grantham came more into the game but could make little impression on a solid Witton back line as the half ended without a goal, a far from surprising outcome.

The second half began with Witton’s James Foley shooting wide. Lee Shaw began to get into some good positions for Grantham as the home side pressed forward.

Jordan Hempenstall headed narrowly wide and Danny Meadows just failed to get a touch on a Shaw cross before Preston was called upon to save a Wittton free kick on 65 minutes.

Witton finally broke the deadlock on 76 minutes when Tames fired home following a Witton free kick.

Grantham pushed forward with Shaw hitting a post and Stefan Galinski bringing an excellent save from Hare as it looked as if Witton would hold on to the three points.

But with the game deep into added time, Grantham snatched an equaliser when Rhys Lewis fired home a loose ball in the box, denying Witton all threee points. STAR MAN: Stefan Galinski (Grantham) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
