NUNEATON TOWN 1 FC UNITED 0

- By Chris Philpotts

NUNEATON Town continued their march to safety in the National League North as they got back to winning ways against FC United – their third win in their last four matches.

A clinical strike from top scorer Ashley Chambers separated the sides as the recent feelgood factor sweeping round Liberty Way returned.

FC United themselves had enjoyed fine form of late, but it was Boro who dominated the opening exchanges and it was no surprise when Chambers broke the deadlock on 28 minutes.

Visiting keeper Lloyd Allinson had rarely been tested before Chambers popped up in the right place at the right time to slot home calmly with a side-footed finish.

The hosts could have added two more before the interval with new signing George Green sending a fizzing shot into the side-netting before Chambers misjudged his distances when he tried to lob one in from long-range.

Those chances, however, soon dried up in a sloppy second half, as neither side managed to assert themselves.

This, though, suited Nuneaton as they eased home for what was a comprehensive win.

And they almost added a second at the death with defender Niall Heaton twice seeing headers cleared from Ryan Beswick’s corner kicks.
