MARGATE 1 LOWESTOFT TOWN 0

- By Ryan Day

MARGATE extended their unbeaten run in the Bostik Premier League with a tight win over Lowestoft Town at Hartsdown Park.

The ‘Gate announced loan signing George Essuman from Dover Athletic in the morning and he made his debut in place of the injured Ben Swift.

The hosts started quickest with in-form striker Jordan Chiedozie who forced the visitors’ keeper into an early save as the Blues looked to take an early advantage.

The ‘Gate looked to break the deadlock again as Aaron Simpson and then Frannie Collin both saw efforts go wide.

Margate continued in the second half to nullify the Lowestoft threat and took the lead as Chiedozie notched his 30th goal in all competitions as he nodded home a hanging David Martin cross to make it 1-0.

A goal-mouth scrambled ensued moments later as Chiedozie saw his initial header well saved before Essuman and substitute Sam Blackman all saw efforts fantastically blocked.

The visitors’ keeper again came to the rescue as Martin delivered a wonderful cross for Collin, whose header was superbly tipped away.

Lowestoft rarely threatened but the Blues had to stay alert.

They did though, successfully see out the 90 minutes to record another win which keeps the ‘Gate third in the Bostik Premier League table and wellplaced to earn at least a play-off place come the end of the season as they gallantly look to chase down leaders Billericay Town, who have a number of games in hand.
