ST NEOTS TOWN 3 CHESHAM UNITED 1

- By John Walker

ST NEOTS arrested the seven-match unbeaten run of in-form Chesham with a first-half performance that deserved to ensure all three points.

The visitors upped their game after the break but found defender Taylor Parr and emergency 17 year old goalkeeper Finley Iron in sparkling form against a visiting side that boasts a plus 26 goals difference.

St Neots went ahead after 12 minutes when Matt Bevans’ handball conceded a penalty converted by Johnny Herd.

It was 2-0 on the half hour when a clever back heel by Dion Sembie-Ferris played Lewis Irwin clear to beat the keeper with a low finish, and nine minutes later the same player produced a cracking crossshot from the edge of the area to beat visiting keeper Harry Isted who got his fingertips to the ball.

It looked a comfortable cushion but just two minutes after the restart defender Liam McDevitt diverted a Lewis Toomey cross past his own keeper to boost Chesham hopes.

They probably had the edge on second half possession but fine work by the young keeper and his defence deservedly ensured a home victory.

St Neots could have won more convincingly but McDevitt had an 86thminute effort cleared off the line with the keeper beaten.

St Neots points tally is now just one short of what they achieved last season. STAR MAN: Taylor Parr (St Neots) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
